Play Store May Simplify Finding Your Favorite Apps

When browsing the Google Play Store, users have some control over the apps suggested to them, based on their typical downloads. Now, the Play Store aims to improve these suggestions with a new Interests feature.

This information comes from an APK deep-dive conducted by Assemble Debug in collaboration with Android Authority. They discovered code indicating this feature, though its release is not guaranteed as Google may decide to scrap it before launch.

Introducing the Interests Section in the Play Store

Currently, Google customizes app suggestions based on users' download history. With the potential new Interests feature, users could further refine their preferences within the app settings.

In version 41.7.16-31 of the Play Store, code reveals a new Interests section in the settings menu. Users would be able to add specific interests, although the exact types of interests available are still unknown. Likely categories include music, photography, action, animals, horror, etc. Adding these interests would help Google tailor app suggestions more closely to users' preferences.

A notable aspect of this feature, shown in the discovered code, is the ability to set interests for apps and games separately. This differentiation is useful, as preferences for games often differ from those for general apps. Additionally, users would have the option to remove interests individually.

Enhanced User Control Over App Suggestions

This straightforward feature, if launched, would give users more control over the types of apps the Play Store suggests. By allowing users to specify their interests, Google aims to make app discovery more personalized and efficient.

As of now, the Interests feature is in the testing phase, and there is no certainty about its release. However, if implemented, it promises to enhance the user experience on the Google Play Store by providing more tailored app recommendations.
