About two weeks ago, Google released Android 15 Beta 3 for Pixel devices, introducing new features and key tweaks. This was the first Android 15 beta build to achieve the “Platform Stability” status. Now, Google has rolled out Android 15 Beta 3.1, a minor update primarily aimed at bug fixes. Users will be pleased to know that this update addresses the persistent lock screen authentication bug.
Android 15 Beta 3.1 Update Rolling Out for Supported Pixel Devices
The main issue reported in Android 15 Beta 3 involved a bug that disrupted normal use of the device from the lock screen. When the phone was locked, users could still perform actions like activating shortcuts or controlling music playback. However, a bug caused the device to require PIN or fingerprint authentication for these actions, leading to frustration as users were forced to unlock their device for tasks that shouldn't need such authentication.
Thankfully, the latest Android 15 Beta 3.1 update resolves this issue. The firmware, identified by build number AP31.240517.031, is now available for download from Google's official repositories. Users running the previous update should receive an OTA notification, but manual update checks can also be performed through the Settings menu on the device.
Compatible Pixel Devices and Additional Bug Fixes
This update is compatible with the following Pixel devices: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a. Alongside the lock screen authentication fix, there is also a resolution for a facial unlocking issue where the feature would sometimes fail unexpectedly. Additionally, the update includes fixes for issues affecting system stability, connectivity, and audio quality.
The Android 15 Beta 3.1 OTA update size is approximately 63.87 MB. If you have not yet received the update notification and prefer not to wait, you can manually install it. Necessary files and tools for manual installation are available on the official site.
